Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are a Major League Baseball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are in the Central Division of the National League. The Brewers were part of the American League from their creation as an expansion club in 1969 through the 1997 season, after which they switched to the National League. The team has been nicknamed "The True Blue Brew Crew," "The Brew Crew" or even simply "The Crew." The 1982 club that won the American League pennant is affectionately known as "Harvey's Wallbangers," but that moniker refers to the 1982 club in particular and not Brewers in general. South Africa 22 - All Blacks 29 (Tri Nations 2010, Soweto)Ferdy from LondonI didn't see the match. Staying with family in Scotland, it was decided instead to take a walk to the Loch Katrine which was well worth it and so beautiful. I did utter a silent prayer in my heart that I wouldn't be missing the match of the century. Chances were it wouldn't happen, but Murphy's Law dictated otherwise.I can't comment on the match. I've learnt about it through friends and through internet feeds. But what I can glean about it safely is this:

Tournament Point

I’m jealous, Ferdy. Living in London, the All Blacks v Springbok games in SA each year were my favourite - kick-offs that matched British Summer Time perfectly. Yes ... watching a Test match, in daylight, at the pub. Old skool, all day, Test Match Fever!

Blogging rugby

It's been nearly four years since I started blogging. I had just returned from a seven year stint in the UK and was frustrated at the level of sports reporting in NZ. Particularly the fact that women hardly get a look in on the sports pages when it comes to sports journalism. With the 2007 rugby world cup looming, I thought it would be a good idea to have a go myself on the sport that I am most ardent about and the team that I love - the All Blacks.A few interesting things to note in that time since I've started this blog:

Israel Dagg = Yes. Rene Ranger = No

All Blacks 31 - Springboks 17. Cake Tin/Wellington. Tri Nations 2010This heading is misleading. If it was the man of the match we were looking for tonight - Piri Weepu was the man. With some clean breaks, a steady night at any breakdown, and a conversion in the face of a Dan Carter meltdown, Piri was the man of the match on the field.

Springboks - the new Dad's Army?

All Blacks 32 Vs South Africa 12Watching a replayed game where you already know the result is definitely not as heart palpitating as watching a game live. I finally got around to watching the All Blacks' first test against South Africa after the weekend. It has been heralded as one of the best New Zealand performances of recent times (probably since the 2005 turn against the Lions at the Cake Tin).

It's PC gone mad Mr Hayden!

I was glad to see Andy Hayden has finally left the building. You knew it was all going downhill for him when his resignation letter came out with that great saying that all aging cumedgeons seem to fall back on when life is falling around them: "It's PC gone mad!"

Where is the youf?

The three wise men have made their choices with a steady (translation: boring) All Black team chosen for the upcoming tri nations. It’s so disappointing after the exciting debuts of players with genuine X factor and promise during the Welsh and Irish tests. Now it feels we’re back to square one - stuck with the likes of Ma’a Nonu and Corey “Jacob Oram” Flynn. From dependable to predictable

Invictus

I watched this film last night and on the whole I enjoyed the story of Nelson Mandela’s attempts at unifying a nation coming out of apartheid through the rugby world cup. However, I felt the film was a bit heavy handed and with Morgan Freeman’s bad (or lack of) accent, lacked authenticity at times. This surprised me because I’ve enjoyed director Clint Eastwood’s past offerings.
