U-19 World Cup: Long route for associates

ICC has changed the qualification format of U-19 World Cup for Associate and affiliate nations.  CAN president, Vinay Raj Pandey , after his arrival from Dubai by participating ICC General assembly ,said  that according to new design top two  teams of regional competition from each region will have to play one more tournament which decides the 5 teams for U-19 world cup. The top five teams from that tournament along with 9 test nations, Zimbabwe and the host Kenya, will compete in U-19 world Cup 2010.

Unlike the previous format that allows top team/teams from each regional competition to enter directly in the U-19 World Cup, ICC has given an opportunity plus challenge to non-test nations. CAN president expressed pleasure to new arrangement, according to him country like Nepal require more international matches, so it is pleasing for us.

Now the U-19 world cup qualification structure, somehow, looks like Senior World Cup qualification Structure. I think the decision ICC made is appreciable and hope ICC will arrange more tournaments for Associates and affiliates which help to expand the cricket all over the world.
